Looking Out For Number One

Since I started the blog many of my friends and acquaintances have reached out asking me about books. They all want to know what book I can recommend to someone who does not know yet how to empower themselves. It is a very hard question because we are all unique. We all have different things that can trigger our consciousness and our emotions. The best answer should be, just read and keep reading, then one day you will come across that life changing book that is going to make everything clear to you.

From my own experience, I had read many books that touched me, that help shape my view, help me realize how powerful I can be if I have the right mindset. For example, No Excuses by Brian Tracy, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, and Mind Hacking by Sir John Hargrace. However, the book that touched me in every angle of my life is looking Out For # 1 by Robert Ringer. He wrote this Best Seller in 1977, but the content still applies today. It can affect anyone in any society and culture but most of the book’s content will be more relevant for someone in the American culture. This book is a classic.

The author gives timeless practical advice on looking out for yourself and helps his reader to understand how important it is to look out for their own interests. Ringer does not advocate selfishness, but asks readers to stop expecting anything from other people, and to look out for their own interests. I fully recommend this book to anyone that is not quite sure how to change the direction of their life but is aware that a change is necessary.

“Everything changes for the better when you take ownership of your own problems” Robert Ringer.

Do You Have a Limit?

“You are your only limits.” This quote is one of the most powerful quotes that I have come across, and it is one of my favorites. Too many times people have created excuses for not taking actions. We are so protective over our comfort zone that we do not want to take the leap of faith to get on the road to success.

  • The only thing stopping us from reaching our goals and dreams are our limits, and we set our own limits.
  • We waste too much time explaining to others and ourselves the reasons that we cannot do certain things.
  • We are great at setting up limitations than trying to find out how to be great.
  • We put limits on ourselves through our thought and then we limit the actions we take.

Meanwhile all we need is to believe in our potential, have faith, be more confident, and take actions. The human brain is very complex. Studies have shown that our mindset is the first step toward success. Our positive mindset plays an important role to our success, however, it also can be responsible for our failures. If you do not think you are able to carry a box, you might have all the muscle needed to move the box but still are unable to move it because of the limitation set by your mind.

“Seriously, if you always put limits on what you can do, physical or anything else; it’ll spread over into the rest of your life. It’ll spread into your work, into your morality, into your entire being… There are NO limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you. A man must constantly exceed his level.” Bruce Lee

What Are You Waiting For?

  • Have you start your journey to become the best person you can be yet?
  • Where are you in your journey?

When do you think your journey started? The day you were born? I know for a fact that mine started on Jun 21, 2001 because since that day I have been making decision for Nephtalie. Sorry to tell you that your journey kicks off the day you start making decisions on your own, the day you start question things you were told. Your journey starts on the day you stop letting the society instructs you its definition of happiness and telling you what path you need to follow in order to be successful. Your journey start when struggle arise and only you can take control and turn sh$&t around.

You need to assess yourself, believe in who you are, and who you want to be, then develop your self-confidence and ready, set, go. Start your journey regardless of what the society thinks of you and your perceptions.

You need to get up and start building yourself, start making decisions that will change your life for the better, it is almost never happened for someone will show off and start making those decisions for you. Remember you are in control of your life you are the captain on of your ship. Yes, I know if you believe in God, you can say that God is in control of every aspect of your life. However, you are at the only physical person who is in control of what your tomorrow will be. The only things that can stop you are illness and death, and in most cases, you have no control over neither one.

“It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.” Leonardo da Vinci

High-Self-Esteem is The First Step Toward The Best YOU

The Merriam Webster Dictionary define self-esteem as a “feeling of having respect for yourself and your abilities” Many time we look at someone’s achievement and say  “I am so proud of you” “I respect and admire you”  So now let me ask you, how many time have you take a look at yourself and tell yourself “I’m proud of you” “I give you a lot of credit for your accomplishments” “I respect you”  if the answer is I cannot remember or never you need to read the title of this post one more time.

You might be in a situation where you are feeling weak, powerless, and that you cannot handle things that are happening in your life, trust me I’ve been there. Today I am delighted to tell you that you can boost yourself up, you can start the process of becoming the wonderful soul you were born to be.

The first step toward achieving great is to believe in yourself. You must Have Faith in Your Abilities to Become great. Maybe this is why Jesus said, if you have faith you can tell the mountain to move and the mountain will move. You might ask “how can I believe in myself when most of the things that I started fail?” The answer to that question is simple, “Everybody is a genius. But If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that It is stupid”-Albert Einstein. To have faith you must know yourself, know your strength and weakness.

In 2015, I was 31, with two kids, (the youngest was five-months-old) and one fulltime job when I made the decision to go to college. For many, except myself, this decision was impossible to achieve, they saw in it my “mountain.” Two years later, in 2017, I graduated with distinction from a community college, now I am pursuing my bachelor’s degree. My secret was and still is “I BELIEVE IN MYSELF” “I HAVE FAITH

“Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done”

Taking Responsibility Will Change Your Life

Taking responsibility is the key to a healthy life. The day you realize you are responsible for almost everything that has happened to you is the day you will start making the changes that you need to have a better life. That day is your “day one” toward living life to the fullest. Taking responsibility means you are taking control, whether it is with your friendships, your marriage, your career or purpose/dream. When you are responsible you cannot put the blame on anyone but yourself.

I have blamed my biological parents for every bad experience that I had. It took me 32 years to realize that I needed to take control of my life. I needed to take responsibility for the good, and the bad choices that I have made. Thanks to a video posted by Gary Vee on Instagram I realized that when you make someone responsible for your mistakes and problems you are empowering this person. He or she is becoming the only one who can change the situation. This person is the captain of your life. Most of the time this person is not even aware that there was a problem that needed to be fixed. How can you expect someone to fix a problem when he or she does not even know the problem exists? In some cases this person does not believe he or she is responsible for fixing the problem. To tell you the truth, no one is responsible but YOU.

When you are sad, mad or happy this is YOU reacting to whatever happened to you. Meaning YOU are responsible for your sadness, anger, and happiness. You could have chosen to have another reaction but YOU choose this particular reaction. If you are an adult and you are broke, unemployed, and unhappy with your life, who do you think needs to take action? YOU. Taking responsibility will pave the way to a better life because you will start taking action.

When you take responsibility you are empowering yourself. YOU are taking control, YOU are taking action, YOU are setting goals, and YOU are planning your way out from whatever situation that you are not comfortable with. Yes, you might need help to reach the place you want, but you know that this is your responsibility not anyone else’s. “So here is a great resolution step up and take responsibility to turn your life around for the BETTER. Every time you find yourself saying, someone should… decide to begin doing what YOU can instead.”

“The price of greatness is responsibility.” Winston Churchill
